My ongoing research activities involve Filipino migrant workers in Japan from diverse backgrounds. According to data from the Immigration Services Agency of Japan, there were 297,262 Filipinos in Japan in 2021, making them the fourth-largest foreign community after the Chinese, Koreans, and Vietnamese. Language plays an important role in the labor migration of Filipinos to Japan. To further understand the ways language plays an important role in the labor migration of Filipinos to Japan, I have sought cooperation with various formal and informal Filipino community associations in Japan.
